While staying in one of five European hotels, you might be being watched in your sleep. In the five hotels, matresses are equipped with eighty sensors that detect a person's temperature, motion, and sound. This information is sent to a robotic arm in Paris and then painted by the arm. It is very interesting, as one who sleep-talks will have a much different painting than one who does not. You could paint your dream, using the magic of robots.
How It Could Affect Society
The Dream Bot could affect the safety of our society by it could detect a disturbance in the person's health by detecting unusual activity compared to the person's "average" painting. If this was different, the bot could send a warning to people, sending them to go check on the "victim". http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense.html
November 7th, 2012 The Salad Bot
The Salad Bot was designed by KIST, to help around the house, one of the many tasks being making a salad!
The Salad Bot could affect society by helping people with for example: breakfast, allowing us to get other neccessities done such as taking a shower or brushing your teeth; etc. The "Salad Bot" would be a very helpful addition to society.
With the Learning Bot, you can teach it to do a household chore, or anything really, and it will do the action you taught it! The Learning Bot could change society in many ways, such as giving people more time in the more time in the morning, therefore making it less stressful. For example, you buy a robot, teach it to make your bed, and then you could just get up and get dressed and go downstairs, the robot would do the bed-making for you. It'd help the economy tremendously, as making it have more jobs such as programming these bots/making them, and also getting the parts to make it. It wouldn't surprise me that (assuming these objects became a public thing) there'd be "ghetto learning bots" like we have "ghetto Cheez-Its"(Cheese-Nips) or "ghetto Chips-Ahoys" (Chip-ums).
The lumberjack bot was programmed to cut a log into two stools and two additional parts very precisely. This bot could affect society by for one: it could decrease the rate of jobs around the world. Granted, it'd add a few for making/programming the robot but people who carve the stools will lose their jobs.
The Orbiting Mechanic Bot The orbiting mechanic bot's goal is to mine orbiting satellites that have done their job for the useful parts of it. This bot could affect our society by it could help clean the litter of space junk out in the vast, and also save lots of money by regaining the expensive parts. Therefore making our economy get better.
The jam bots are a group of robots that have many joints and are programmed differently to play today's songs with actual instruments! The Jam Bots could affect today's society by they could play live songs/concerts and not mess up, but also people could buy them and feel like the band is playing right there.
The Scarecrow Bot
This bot's goal is to scare off birds on airplane runways to prevent plane damage. It makes noises and moves around to prevent the birds from getting used to the sound. This bot could affect society by decreasing the amount of funds put into repairing airplanes, and increase the amount of travel, in response the amount of cultural diffusion increasing.
The Fishy Bot
This bot can travel underwater without using an extreme amount of power. This bot could affect society by we could use it in war to spy on enemies (using other fish as disguise).
These bots can hover in the air and change the way they hover to be fit to their surroundings. They can communicate with other bots and perform cool formations. I think the Space Invader Bots could affect society by acting as butlers, bringing you things and performing tasks for you. Which is a positive. A negative could be our enemies in war using them as spy bots, which would be hard to see without technology due to their size. These bots could be a good impact on our society with the fact of them acting as slaves, but bad since our enemies could do the same.
The Tele-Kiss Bot
This bot can transfer the feelings of a kiss wirelessly to another kiss bot. So you could be facetiming with your partner, but not able to reach them. You'd be able to both put your lips to the bot and kiss it, just like how you'd normally kiss your partner. It'd feel similar to actually kissing them. This bot could affect our society today by benefiting our economy by having another thing to process and buy. Creating more simple jobs. But, it could also decrease social skills of future generations. Due to the fact you don't actually have to be near the person.
This is a robot designed by DARPA which can traverse difficult terrain while carrying up to 400 pounds of weight for 24 hours over a 20 mile distance. It is meant for transporting military equipment & will greatly affect wars once it is officially released to the military. Carrying the heavy loads of equipment would increase infantry's efficiency, since they wouldn't have to carry as much weight with them while travelling to the destination.
This robot is controlled by Siri, which can pour you a beer on command. It could change the economy by having these in stores, and jobs to make these, etc. This robot could revolutionize drunkards! Making them even more lazy than before!
The Passive-Walking Bot
This robot can walk up to 15 km without any source of artificial power, only using its weight & potential energy to move. Granted, it has to be downhill, but it still has potential, with The Nagoya Institute of Technology planning on releasing a commercial version in 1-2 years. It could be used to carry items downhill.
The Bike-Riding Bot
This robot has the ability of riding on a bike! It could possibly take over the paper-boy job in our world, which we all know delivers the papers. It could be more efficient with no mistakes made & no homes missed, unlike the flawed person. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2012/01/06/qbo_cardboard_robot_dj_robot_and_more_videos_.html
The Self-Aware Bot
This robot really fascinates me, it can sense its surroundings, and if the robot is another (Qbo), it can detect if it is itself or a different Qbo. This technology could be used in our society for helping the anti-social people with getting friends, almost as a sort of practice.
